Artifact Overview

Late-nineteenth-century English potteries created dense, non-absorbent stoneware bottles to hold liquids, such as ink. The bottle's hard clay body might chip, but it was difficult to break. Once filled and sealed with a plug the bottle could be safely shipped anywhere in the world.
